Important Information

We’re doing it differently this year! Your entry will be a video submission of you (or your group) busking, with a maximum length of 10 minutes. The video has to be of you actually busking, not playing in your living room or home. Please take a few snapshots of your setup too so your viewers can get a sense of your setup and where you are.

You can then do some basic editing of your video  – putting on some titles, adding some reverb if you wish – however it must be the original audio from your live busking session. You can’t overdub or add additional sound effects or tracks. Let’s keep it real!

Once submitted, all entries will be published online and then a window of voting will open. The most popular entries in the different age categories will win this years national awards, with our ANBC judging panel to choose recipients for the special judges awards.

There is $6000 of prize money up for grabs, so get out there and get busking!

Registration opens on the 21st of November. You will find a link to the registration page at the bottom of this page.

There will be a voting period from 14th – 30th December. This is when you can get as many people to vote for your entry as you can. The entries with the most popular votes will win the cash prizes and the title. The winners will be announced on the 31st December and contacted to arrange the prizes to be transferred either by electronic payments or by cheque.

Please scroll to the bottom of this page for the registration link (it will be active on the 21st November). Please read all the relevant information before registering, to ensure a smooth applicatino process. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get votes?

Once you have registered and uploaded your video, you will get your own page, which you can then share with your family, friends and fans. Each person can vote for as many busking acts as they like, but can only vote once per act.

Is there a size or length limit to the video?

Yes, please limit the video to 10 minutes and 50 MB. If you don’t know how to reduce the size of the video, please upload the video to youtube and submit the youtube link.

If I win a prize, when and how will I receive the winnings?

You will be contacted by ANBC to provide banking details, or you will be sent a cheque in the mail (yes we still use cheques!). We will be aiming to do this on the 31st of December. Please ensure you provide correct contact details when you pay your registration fee!

How will you stop people from cheating?

Cheating or rigging of the system in any way will not be tolerated, and entries that have engaged in this behaviour will be disqualified. Some entrants will have hundreds of facebook friends, and will be really good at getting everyone they know to vote for them, and will give some people a natural advantage. So don’t be shy – ask everyone you know to vote for you!

How much does it cost to enter the competition?

All entries for 2020 will cost $5. This is for both individuals and groups. In other words, $5 for a group or $5 for an individual. If you have 4 people in the group, it will only cost $5. We have reduced entry fees for 2020 to make it as accessible as possible.

Is the title of Australian National Busking Champion an actual thing?

Yes! And if you talk to many of our previous title holders, it really does open doors as an entertainer. Some of our previous winners have embarked on amazing musical journeys, and having a national award like ANBC really does help. The cash prizes are great too! Just search the internet for “Australian National Busking Champions” and you will see!

Does the video entry have to be of me/us busking? Or can we send in a video from our loungeroom?

We really want you to get out there and do some real busking. We understand that all juristictions of Australia now have lifted restrictions that might otherwise restrict busking activies, so get out there and busk! Have a friend or family member video your performance, and submit it.1

Can I donate money / currency to a busker?

We are hoping to have this functionality built into the website before laungh but otherwise the best thing you can do is share their page to your facebook, via email and help them get as many votes as possible!

How can I get more information?

Please use the contact form or keep looking around the website.
